GAMBLING: A 44-year-old man from the 400 block of Eighth said there has been illegal gambling going on at a bar on Youngstown-Poland Road. He said he saw a suspect “pay out” for a number of slot-machine-type games. He also said the establishment’s kitchen manager acts as a bookie during the day by cell phone. The case was forwarded to detectives.
THEFT: A 43-year-old woman from the first block of Chambers said her ex-boyfriend stole her personal papers, which included the titles to two of her vehicles and the deed to her home.
• 5:48 p.m.: A caller from the 3900 block of Fourth said a man was at the home causing a disturbance. The man was there to get the reportee’s daughter, but the reportee did not want the man seeing her.
• 7 p.m.: A resident in the 200 block of Overlook said a man claiming to be from the Census Bureau was at her door. Two officers responded and confirmed that the man did work for the bureau, but he needed to send his paperwork to the city’s safety service director before visiting anymore homes.
UNAUTHORIZED USE OF MOTOR VEHICLE: A 43-year-old man from the first block of Hawthorne said his son took his truck to Georgia on Sept. 4 with the intent of attending a university there. When he contacted him on Oct. 4, the son advised he wasn’t attending college and was afraid to come home with the truck because he believed there was an active warrant for his arrest for a felony.
