OCTOBER 22
DRIVING UNDER SUSPENSION: At 2:42 a.m., an officer saw a vehicle traveling on State without its headlights on. The female driver was pulled over and admitted to not having driving privileges due to a suspension. She was arrested.
• 9:14 a.m.: A 56-year-old man said a tenant in the first block of West Faith was making threats to him while he was serving an eviction notice. Two officers responded and stood by while the notice was served.
• 1:10 p.m.: A caller said a vehicle was parked on Columbus with a front and rear flat tire. The owner was advised that the vehicle would be towed at her expense and she would be cited if it was not moved.
THEFT: At 2:04 p.m., a 48-year-old woman said a female in a dark Green Ford SUV pumped $31.51 worth of gas and drove off without paying. The reportee advised that it could have been a credit card swipe that did not take. An officer responded to the suspect’s house. She advised that she would pay for the gas.
• 3:13 p.m.: A caller said a juvenile was walking on Fifth carrying a pellet gun. Three officers responded and located a group of juveniles in the 500 block of West Omar. One of them was carrying an M-16-style paint ball gun. The juvenile said he was carrying the gun to a friend’s house to play the next morning. He was advised of the dangers of carrying a weapon and told to keep it in the house.
• 3:50 p.m.: A 44-year-old woman from the 300 block of Elm said her daughter was being unruly. Three officers responded and were able to mediate the situation.
DRIVING UNDER SUSPENSION: At 4:43 p.m., an officer saw a blue Chevrolet on Elm and ran a random registration check. The owner of the vehicle had a suspended license and a possible warrant out of Summit County and the officer conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as the owner and was arrested.
• 5:43 p.m.: A woman on Spring said a green Ford Explorer was parked on the corner of Spring and Dogwood for over three days without being moved. An officer responded and spoke to the owner of the vehicle who advised it was disabled and he was getting it towed the next day.
CRIMINAL DAMAGING: At 10:22 p.m., an officer went to the 600 block of Creed and spoke to an apartment manager who said a pickup truck purposefully drove off the road through the yard of her property and then back onto the roadway. The area was searched for the truck with negative results.
OCTOBER 23
DRIVING UNDER SUSPENSION: At 4:57 p.m., an officer saw a gold colored Ford Explorer failing to display a front license plate and initiated a traffic stop on Walton near Midlothian. The driver was under a license suspension and was arrested.
DRIVING UNDER SUSPENSION/THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL: At 2:54 a.m., an officer saw a red Pontiac Sunfire exit a bar at a high rate of speed, almost striking the front of the marked police cruiser. The car was stopped by police on Midlothian at 10th. The female driver was noticeably intoxicated. She refused all field sobriety tests and was arrested. It was later determined that she didn’t have driving privileges. She refused to submit to a breath test.
• 3:56 a.m.: A caller said shots were fired in the first block of Spring. Officers found no evidence of shots fired. At 4 a.m., another caller said shots were fired in the first block of Elm and a suspicious green Chevrolet Blazer was in the area. Officers continued their patrols and were unable to locate the vehicle.
• 4:15 a.m.: A citizen said individuals were being loud and obnoxious at a party in the 500 block of Lincoln. Officers responded and the homeowners were advised of the complaint. They agreed to keep the noise level down and move indoors.
• 1:45 p.m.: A caller said there was a woman in a white Chevrolet Impala who seemed very confused and disoriented and asked her for directions to her own home on Lakeshore. The woman then drove around the block six times. An officer located the woman, who was recognized as the wife of a retired officer. She said she was okay and the officer had the woman follow him to her home. He helped her inside and was unable to locate her husband.
• 8:04 p.m.: A woman from the 200 block of Maplewood said she could see people in the attic of a vacant house with flashlights. Two officers responded and saw an open door in the rear of the building. A woman said she was showing the property to potential renters. She was asked to show the home during daylight hours.
• 8:05 p.m.: A male from the first block of Euclid said a fight was taking place in the alley near his home and one of the juveniles was hiding in his bushes. The juvenile was located by police. He said a verbal argument took place and the others left before anything physical took place.
• 8:47 p.m.: A man from the 200 block of Parkway said his mother’s boyfriend had threatened him. Two officers responded and mediated the situation.
OCTOBER 24
• 12:56 a.m.: While on patrol, three officers were dispatched to South Bridge Street for a bar fight. A male, holding his nose and with blood coming from his face, was located on the south side of the parking lot. The male was highly intoxicated and advised he was engaged in a mosh pit when he accidentally struck someone else. He was thrown out of the bar and someone came outside and punched him in the face.
• 2:19 p.m.: While on patrol, an officer was dispatched to the 2300 block of Manor and spoke to a woman who said she lost her wallet in a grocery store between the checkout and the doors. She said the wallet contained her driver’s license, social security card and $50. The officer spoke to employees at the store who advised that they had been searching since the woman left and had negative results so far. The officer then returned to the woman’s house, where he learned that the woman had found her driver’s license but the rest of the items, including the wallet, were still missing.
• 2:51 p.m.: A woman from the 900 block of Garfield said there were three juveniles behind the Fifth Street Plaza trying to get into the building. Officers responded and found the juveniles, who denied the allegations. They were advised to leave the area.
3:04 p.m.: The police dog unit assisted Poland police with a traffic stop on the corner of 10th and Edgewater in Poland.
• 4:53 p.m.: A man said he saw two people jump a fence at the apartments near his business in the 400 block of Fifth. Two officers responded and were able to get into the back yard and found the home to be secure. No suspects were located.
• 6:03 p.m.: Two officers mediated a domestic dispute in the 100 block of Lowellville Road. At 9:26 p.m., officers were summoned again to the area while a man was getting custody of his children from a woman involved in the first call. The woman slammed her door in an officer’s face during the call and was ordered to open it back up. The woman complied and the situation was resolved.
• 6:34 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to Frank and Bridge streets for two pit bulls running loose. A pit bull was located playing with another dog in the first block of Highland. A female was able to put a leash on the dog and give it to the officer. The dog was taken to its owner in the 100 block of North Bridge. The owner was given a citation.
• 6:54 p.m.: The police dog unit assisted the State Highway Patrol on Interstate 680.
• 7:04 p.m.: A 51-year-old woman from the 200 block of Poland Avenue said she was arguing with her landlord about using a washing machine. Two officers mediated the situation.
ASSAULT: At 8:34 p.m., a 32-year-old woman said she was assaulted by a man with a pitchfork or similar weapon outside her apartment in the 600 block of Creed. She said she chased the man to his home in Youngstown before realizing she had been injured. Her injuries were not noticeable to officers.
• 10:02 p.m.: A woman from the 400 block of Eighth said she believed someone was outside her home. An officer searched the area but did not find any suspects.
OCTOBER 25
• 12:32 a.m.: A woman came to the station and said she was feeling suicidal since her boyfriend left her. She said her boyfriend immediately terminated their long relationship after learning she was pregnant and fled to an unknown location. Slash marks were visible on the woman’s arm. She was transported to the hospital.
DRIVING UNDER SUSPENSION: At 8:58 p.m., an officer saw a blue 1987 Ford van fail to signal a turn onto East Midlothian from Fourth. After a registration check, the officer learned that the vehicle’s owner had suspended driving privileges. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was arrested.
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL/WITHOUT A LICENSE: At 3:05 a.m., a 56-year-old man from the 1000 block of Fifth said there was a truck against his garage in his backyard. An officer arrived and saw the vehicle in the reportee’s driveway. It also had struck the reportee’s car. The male driver was awake and inside, looking around with the car turned off. The officer opened the man’s passenger door and ordered him out of the vehicle. The man complied and said he was at his home and wanted to go inside and go to sleep. The officer advised the man that this was not his home. The man was noticeably intoxicated and was arrested. The man submitted a .165 percent blood-alcohol content, which is twice the legal limit, in a test at the station.
• 10:15 a.m.: A man said someone was dumping bushes on Lincoln near Garfield. The suspect’s vehicle was located and the driver said he had dumped the bushes on his own property.
• 3:52 p.m.: A woman from the 200 block of Lowellville Road said there was an aggressive dog outside her home that jumped on her daughter, bruising her. An officer located the dog but could not find the owner. The dog warden was notified.
OCTOBER 26
PROPERTY MAINTENANCE: At 8:55 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the first block of Grandview that had trash and debris scattered though the property. There were disconnected downspouts and several parts of the foundation and steps were collapsing. The front door was unsecured and entry was easily gained. Building materials were in the living room and dining room. Photos were taken for evidence.
• 11:07 a.m.: A caller said someone was removing items from a residence in the 300 block of Geneva but hung up before any other information was obtained. Two officers responded and spoke to an employee of a maintenance company who said that the company was hired by the homeowner to clean out the house.
CRIMINAL TRESPASS: At 4:40 p.m., a 64-year-old man said his son saw a male on the grounds of a slag plant on Oct. 25. He was hunting in a restricted area and removed a deer from the location. The man was confronted and left the grounds without incident. The reportee only wanted a report on file.
• 4:40 p.m.: A caller said tree limbs were down on Fifth near Edison. An officer removed the limbs from the roadway and the street department was notified.
• 5:42 p.m.: A man from the first block of North Bridge said he needed his stepdaughter removed from the residence. She was made to leave without incident.
• 11:43 p.m.: A woman from the 400 block of 10th said a dark-colored vehicle was circling the area around her residence. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.
