OCTOBER 27
DISORDERLY CONDUCT/CRIMINAL TRESPASS: At 12:07 p.m., a 48-year-old Youngstown man said his father-in-law came to harass him at his place of employment on Fifth regarding child support. The restaurant owner told the suspect several times not to harass his employees. The victim advised he was going to seek a protection order.
• 12:53 p.m.: A 38-year-old woman from the 400 block of Garfield said she and her family were being harassed by a woman at all hours of the night. An officer spoke with the suspect, who advised she would stop calling and bothering the victims.
CRIMINAL DAMAGING: At 3:18 p.m., a 44-year-old woman from the 300 block of Elm said she walked outside and saw that the passenger side front tire on her green Ford Explorer was flat. The tire was deliberately punctured by an unknown sharp object on the side wall.
• 5:06 p.m.: A resident said there was a barking dog in the 100 block of Wilson. An officer sat in the area but did not hear a barking dog.
• 7:33 p.m.: A man from the 200 block of Center said his neighbor blew all his leaves into the street. Two officers responded and spoke to both parties, who both had different views of the story. They were advised to contact police if they were needed again.
• 10:08 p.m.: Three officers went to the football field parking lot in Nebo for two suspicious vehicles. Some males advised they were talking. They were given a trespass warning and sent on their way.
OCTOBER 28
• 8:58 a.m.: A woman from the 100 block of Sexton said the back door was ajar again at a nearby home. An officer searched and found the home empty. The safety service director was advised that the door needed to be secured.
THEFT/CRIMINAL TRESPASS: At 9:02 a.m., the owner of a restaurant in the 500 block of Fifth advised that someone suctioned the grease from the grease bin during the night without permission. He advised that a company does this monthly and pays him $40, but they said the bin was empty prior to their arrival.
• 10:32 a.m.: A woman said she heard footsteps on top of the Fifth Street Plaza building. Police searched the area with negative results. There were no vehicles or ladders near the building.
• 2:58 p.m.: A caller said two males were using a screwdriver to get into a vacant home on Garfield. Two officers spoke to the males, who were inside the home. They said earlier they saw three juveniles enter the home and went inside to make them leave. No one was found in the home. The street department was notified to board the home up.
THEFT: At 3:16 p.m., an 18-year-old woman from the 200 block of Poland Avenue said she let a neighbor into her home to use her cell phone and after the neighbor left, $380 was missing from her purse.
CRIMINAL DAMAGING: At 6:25 p.m., a woman advised that a juvenile on a temporary permit had driven through her lawn and her neighbor’s lawn, causing damage. A street sign pole also was bent. The case was forwarded to the juvenile officer.
DRIVING UNDER SUSPENSION: At 8:12 p.m., an officer conducted a random registration check on a maroon 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis and found the owner was under suspension. The male driver was stopped on Elm west of Seventh and arrested for non-compliance suspensions.
• 9:13 p.m.: A man from the 900 block of Fifth said he heard a loud bang and saw a vehicle sideways in the street before it left the area. An officer found debris in the area but was unable to locate the vehicle.
• 9:40 p.m.: A resident said two SUVs were circling the high school. An officer spoke to the occupants, who said they were driving around to help keep the school safe from vandalism from Campbell students.
• 10:02 p.m.: A woman said three juveniles were in the parking lot across from the high school in the 100 block of Euclid. Two officers responded and discovered the juveniles were high school students. They were advised to go home.
• 10:12 p.m.: A Poland man said he went to drop off a payment at a business in the 1000 block of Fifth and noticed the door was open. Police searched the building and found no one inside. The owner was advised.
OCTOBER 29
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL: At 1:49 a.m., two officers saw a gray Hyundai SUV turn without using a signal and stopped the vehicle on Walton. The female driver’s speech was slurred and loud. She failed the field sobriety test, was arrested and submitted a .152 blood-alcohol content percentage, which is almost twice the legal limit of .08.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: At 2:10 a.m., an officer saw that the entrance to the Struthers High School football stadium was pelted with orange and pink paintballs. The marks were fresh and appeared to have been shot from a vehicle.
THEFT/ARSON: At 8:52 a.m., a 31-year-old Austintown woman came to the station and said her car was stolen from her boyfriend’s house in the 400 block of Elm. She said she had several sets of keys for it but was only able to produce one. She insisted she had all the keys and the column had to have been broken to drive it. She said several times at the station that the car was paid for and fully insured and asked if she could call her insurance company and file a claim now. She was advised to wait and see the condition of the car once it was recovered. The officer said the woman appeared nervous and unable to make eye contact and was anxious to collect the insurance. The officer stated in the report that it appeared the woman and her boyfriend were being dishonest. They also did not appear upset that the car was missing. A short time later, Youngstown police advised that the car was driven through a parking lot in Youngstown over a ridge and into a ravine, where it was set on fire.
• 10:37 a.m.: A 25-year-old woman from the 3900 block of Fourth said she and another woman were having an ongoing argument over a man and wanted a report on file.
• 9:24 p.m.: An officer saw a vehicle parked illegally and blocking the entrance to a parking lot at Sexton and Garfield. An officer attempted to notify the owner but the car had to be towed.
• 10:04 p.m.: A man from the first block of Renee said he needed help getting into his home and was worried because his wife wasn’t answering the door. The wife returned after an officer arrived.
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL: At 10:11 p.m., three officers went to the 500 block of Spring for a traffic crash and saw debris in the roadway, a red Ford with heavy damage and a Lincoln Town Car in a front yard that had struck a teal minivan in the driveway. An officer exited his cruiser and was directed by one of the victims to the person who caused the crash, who was leaning against the Town Car. The man had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. The man was arrested and taken to the station, where he was unable to perform the field sobriety tests and refused to submit a breath sample.
OCTOBER 30
• 10:25 a.m.: A caller said a rental home had trash out on the curb and trash pickup wasn’t for two days. The renters brought the garbage into their garage.
OCTOBER 31
• 2:32 a.m.: Three officers went to the 100 block of Center for a large fight and arrested a juvenile for a curfew violation. Later in the day, the owner of a nearby home said a Nintendo Wii console was missing after the fight. The area was searched for the device with negative results.
CRIMINAL DAMAGING: At 10:44 a.m., a 23-year-old woman from the 500 block of Fourth said someone fired a medium-sized bullet at her car, striking it in the front fender. The slug could not be retrieved immediately because it did not exit the fender. No cartridge was recovered.
• 12:26 p.m.: A caller said a man on Grandview was blowing his leaves into the street. He was advised to get leaf bags from the city.
• 1:42 p.m.: A caller said a wire was down on Fourth near Elm. An officer was able to remove the wire from the street and the phone department was notified.
• 4:32 p.m.: A woman from the 400 block of Eighth said he would like a male at the home to gather the rest of his belongings and leave. The officer made the male leave.
• 5:14 p.m.: A woman from the 100 block of Center said that while she was trick-or-treating with her son, her son’s father picked him up and would not give him back despite the fact that she had full custody of the child. The father and son were located and the man gave the child back to his mother.
BURGLARY: At 11:24 p.m., a witness from the 3900 block of Fourth said a black Land Rover backed into the driveway and he heard a loud crash when he walked out of the residence to approach the vehicle. At this time, the car left in a rapid manner. The rear door of the residence was unsecured and open. The only thing displaced was a television that was removed from its stand and put on the floor in the kitchen.
NOVEMBER 1
TELECOMMUNICATIONS HARASSMENT: At 9:03 a.m., a 34-year-old woman from the first block of Sexton said her stepdaughter’s mother called her and harassed her.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS HARASSMENT: At 4:33 p.m., a 27-year-old woman from the first block of Crescent said a woman was harassing her over a male.
ASSAULT: At 9:45 p.m., a Lowellville woman said she went to a friend’s house in the 500 block of West Omar when she saw her ex-boyfriend pull behind her. The reportee said she then drove away, but the new boyfriend followed her around the block and back to her friend’s house, where he exited the vehicle, yelled at her, spit in her face and put her in a headlock. The woman was able to escape by slapping the male in the face.
NOVEMBER 2
AGGRAVATED BURGLARY: At 10:31 a.m., a caller said someone entered her apartment in the 100 block of Sexton while she and her child were asleep and took $120 from her purse in the hallway.
• 1:30 p.m.: A man from the first block of Ridgeway said someone was looking in the window of the back door of a nearby vacant house. Two officers spoke with a man who said he was remodeling the house for the bank so it could be sold.
• 11:13 a.m.: A woman said she saw a child steering a maroon Chevrolet truck with an elderly man behind the wheel and the truck was having trouble turning. An officer searched the area with negative results.
• 4 p.m.: A caller said a man in the first block of West Haywood had his business truck parked in the street with a trailer attached to it, making it hard to pull out of his driveway. The man was advised of the city ordinance and made to move the truck.
• 6:37 p.m.: An officer assisted a woman with her unruly juvenile in the 500 block of Fourth.
BREAKING AND ENTERING: At 8:27 p.m., a 33-year-old man from the first block of West Faith said his drywall tools were stolen from his garage. The door to the garage was kicked in.
NOVEMBER 3
• 2:44 p.m.: A 29-year-old woman from the 500 block of Eighth said her daughter’s father was at her home helping the child with her homework when he became frustrated with her and struck her in the head. She was instructed not to cry out so the mother didn’t know about the incident until the school nurse told her what happened. Police took photos of the child’s injuries.
NOVEMBER 4
• 3:40 p.m.: An 18-year-old woman requested officers remove her ex-boyfriend from her home in the 400 block of West Wilson. He was made to leave the area.
• 4:53 p.m.: A caller said a fight was about to take place behind a studio on Fifth. Two officers arrived and were able to disperse the juveniles before the fight started.
• 6:57 p.m.: A caller said he could hear yelling coming from a house on Riley and wanted an officer to check the welfare of the children. An officer spoke with a woman who said she was having a verbal argument with a family member over the phone.
