Attorney James R. Lanzo and Doris Lancy to be Honored
STRUTHERS – The Struthers Foundation for Educational Excellence met Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Struthers Board of Education. Business included setting the date for the Hall of Fame Induction Dinner and the funding of teacher-written grants.
Two former Struthers teachers, Doris Lancy and Attorney James R. Lanzo, will be honored for their commitment to the Struthers City School District. Board member Danny Thomas confirmed that The Embassy will be the venue for dinner. The board agreed upon Thursday, April 28, as the date for the event.
Funding Approved for Grants
In other business, three teacher-written grants were approved by the board members in attendance. At the Struthers Elementary School, Marlene Barone’s grade four language arts/social studies classes will receive the Turning Point Interactive Power Point software and response cards.
Three Struthers Middle School teachers’ grants also were approved. Nanette Angelilli and Janet George will enhance their eighth-grade math classes by creating a toolbox with funds provided. Additionally, Elizabeth Johnson’s seventh-grade math classes were approved to receive 30 Geoboards to be used in teaching geometry, triangle and spatial sense units.
The total amount of grants funded was $2640.50. As the budget for grants is $5,000 each year, teachers may submit additional grants in January 2011.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, to continue planning for the Hall of Fame Induction.
