COLUMBUS – Junior Ashley Galbraith was named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week by the conference office after an outstanding performance in the high jump at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet this past weekend.
The former Struthers resident and Struthers High School graduate, Class of 2008, won the high jump, clearing 1.79 meters – a new personal record and the sixth best indoor mark in school history. By clearing the bar one attempt before fellow Big Ten jumper Emily Breslin of Purdue, Galbraith was able to win the event. Her jump is tied for 15th best in Division I this season and tied for the best in the Big Ten this season.
“I’m really excited for Ashley to be recognized,” head coach Karen Dennis said. “The season has been challenging for Ashley with minor injuries and having to take some time off, but she’s a hard worker and more importantly, knows how to compete on meet day. She’s been jumping more confidently at higher heights, which is very encouraging. Coach [Rosalind] Joseph has done a great job in managing her training regimen and our athletic training staff has been very supportive.”
