COLUMBUS – Outdoor enthusiasts looking for last-minute ideas for the Memorial Day weekend should consider camping in one of Ohio’s lesser known state park campgrounds.
Although some electric campsites in Ohio State Park campgrounds are already booked, there are plenty of appealing non-electric sites still available across Ohio at a number of campgrounds. These “undiscovered gems” include:
Northwest Ohio State Parks – Kiser Lake and Van Buren;
Northeast Ohio State Parks – Beaver Creek, Findley and Portage Lakes;
Southeast Ohio State Parks – Blue Rock, Burr Oak, Forked Run, Lake Hope and Wolf Run; and
Southwest Ohio State Parks – Scioto Trail.
In addition to camping, each park also provides hiking trails, mountain biking, canoeing, fishing and nature programs, as well as disc golfing at some of the state parks.
As a special incentive to try these “undiscovered gems,” campers who make their reservations by this Thursday, May 24, to camp at one of the parks listed over the Memorial Day weekend, from Friday to Monday, will receive 25 percent off the regular camping fee.
Reservations can be made by calling toll-free at 866-OHIOPARKS (866-644-6727) or at www.ohiostateparks.org.
