(By Florence Galida) STRUTHERS – The 5-2 Poland Bulldogs visited Struthers to meet a waiting SHS battalion, and there was enough of a big battle going on to finish the first half with a 14-14 tie.
The only problem came about when Struthers was held to 0 points as Poland added two TDs in the fourth quarter to take home a 28-14 victory.
Struthers dropped to 4-2 just as they had placed third in Region II’s computer ratings. Poland, coming into the game at 3-2, was not rated. But TDs by Mark Trumbull (5 yard and 3 yard in the first quarter), and Ross Gould’s 7-yard scoring run and Marion Ramirez with a 6-yard TD, hurt Struthers in the fourth quarter.
Wildcat QB Gary Muntean scored in the second quarter, along with Nick Pollifrone, taking on a 3-yard scoring pass from Muntean to tie the game, along with Brandon Kish’s two PATs. But Poland would not let the Wildcats score in the second half.
QB Muntean hit 15 of 24 passes for a total of 143 yards, while Poland’s Jake Wolfe was 3 of 9 for 33.
The rushing stats hurt as Poland’s Gould carried 23 for 127 yards, Marion Ramirez 9 for 82, and Mike Turnbull 11 for 44.
