LOWELLVILLE – The Lowellville Rockets gained their second win of the season after a 20-8 score over the visiting Columbiana Clippers.
Lowellville carried a 17-0 score entering the third quarter before the Clippers picked up their lone touchdown – a Brandon Hacker one-yard run – followed by a two-point conversion to make up their total.
The Rockets enjoyed a strong first quarter under the strength of Seth Stevers’ two long touchdown runs. Stevers took off for a 70-yard score in the first play of the game and added another 67-yarder before the Clippers could put anything on the wall.
Jake Maszczak of the Rockets added two extra points and a final quarter 49-yard field goal.
Struthers outplays Canfield
Struthers earned their fifth win of the season by defeating the visiting – and always tough – Canfield Cardinals 39-21 in a strong showing by the Wildcats.
First quarter successful passes from quarterback Gary Muntean to Tom Kimbrough (34 yards) and Dave Stewart (45 yards) gave the Cats their scoring start.
Stewart then added a 3-yard touchdown in the second quarter, an 8-yard touchdown run in the third and a 35-yard scoring run in the fourth in a colossal 248-yard night for the senior.
Luke Witkowski finished off the Wildcats scoring with a 13-yard touchdown run while Brandon Kish had three PATs and Munteam passed for 88 yards. The teams had not met in over a dozen years.
Campbell loses to Lakeview 17-14
Campbell Memorial dropped their fourth game of the year after making the first touchdown against Lakeview – a 66-yard pass from Brandon Reyes to Motrel Hughes and a 7-0 start.
The Red Devils did not score again until the third quarter when Adrian Brown recovered a Lakeview fumble and ran the ball 36 yards to paydirt in a then 14-14 game. Lakeview, however, scored their 14 points in the second frame on touchdowns from Mike Mannelle and Elijal Henderson, who swung the pendulum their way. A tough battle ensued in the final quarter until Lakeview’s Jake Pishotti kicked a 37-yard field goal as time ran out to snare the win at 17-14, improving Lakeview’s record to 5-3 while the Devils fell to 4-4. Reyes picked up 78 yards on the ground and passed for 133.
