STRUTHERS – Struthers High School alumni and former basketball player Bonnie Beachy visited her alma mater Thursday, Oct. 18, to visit some old friends and make some new ones.
Beachy, who hasn’t lived in Struthers for 34 years, stopped at the high school on her way to Kent State University for a sports reunion. She is a two-time Kodak D-1 All-American from the college and helped her high school team win the AAA State Championship in 1978.
The star player was granted the opportunity to reunite with her former coach, Dick Prest, and meet today’s girls’ basketball team, including longtime coaches John Grandy and Gabe Masi.
Beachy, who currently resides in Houston, Texas, is currently undergoing chemotherapy for late-stage ovarian cancer.
“This is not a farewell tour, but a hello tour,” Beachy wrote in an e-mail to the Hometown Journal.
