STRUTHERS – Struthers Middle School students celebrated the Sixth Annual Pi Day March 15 with the goal that math can be fun.
Pi Day was started at the school with the help of the Struthers Excellence Foundation. The day enhances students understanding of π with problem-solving techniques applied and reinforced in science, social studies, language arts and math.
Students participate in multiple activities, such as a scavenger hunt, creating a π bracelet, reading about the Greek geographer and astronomer Eratosthenes, creating a song, learning their name in Greek and finding out where hat sizes come from.
Students gain a deeper understanding of π by applying real-world applications during this fun-filled day.
The seventh-grade teachers believe that promoting enthusiasm for learning will lead to a deeper appreciation of mathematics.
