A three-week Dining with Diabetes series of classes will be held at Shepherd of the Valley, 301 W. Western Reserve Rd. Poland, OH 44514. Classes will be held, June 6, 13, & 20, 2012 from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm.
The class is open to diabetics, their family members and caretakers. It is sponsored by the Ohio State University Extension, Mahoning County and Shepherd of the Valley.
Cost of the series is $30.00. Pre-registration is required and due June 1, 2012.
Those enrolled will be taught how to prepare meals that are healthy, easy to make and delicious. They also will learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, exercise, and how to understand diabetes-related medical tests.
Recipe books and diabetes brochures will be provided.
The Extension office reminds the public that diabetes is a serious and costly disease. But research has shown that those who learn to manage blood sugar levels eat healthy and exercise regularly can lower the risk of complications and lead a more productive life.
