Tallahassee, Fla. – Private services were held on Friday, June 8, for Sophie Savikas, 94, formerly of Struthers who died June 3, 2012, in Tallahassee, Fla.
She was born May 10, 1918, in Struthers, daughter of the late Paul and Catherine Turchan Democko.
She was a former member of St. Nicholas Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She proudly served her country during World War II as an Army Wac serving at the same time as her four brothers, who served in the Army and Navy.
She is survived by her two sons, Charles P. Savikas of Tallahasse and John (Karen) Savikas of South Carolina; two brothers, Steve (Joan) Democko of Kettering and Robert Democko of Boardman; a sister , Marian Dzurnak of Villa Maria, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Democko of Struthers; four grandchildren, Keith, William (B.J.), Justin and Susan; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Savikas; two sisters, Elizabeth Sevasko and Margaret Dobos; and four brothers, Joseph, Paul, John and Charles Democko.
She was buried in Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
