LOWELLVILLE – Sixty-nine years ago, retired Technical Sgt. Vince Bellanca risked his life in World War II.

In September, Bellanca was awarded the knight’s degree of the French Legion of Honor medal from the French government, the highest honor that France can bestow, as thanks for his service during the French liberation in Operation Overlord.
