OVER 1,000: Struthers High School senior McKenna Shives scored her 1,000th career point in front of cheering crowds with 4 minutes and 33 seconds left in the first quarter in the Cats’ game against the Canfield Cardinals on Feb. 1. Shives broke free on an almost coast-to-coast jaunt to the north basket at the Struthers Fieldhouse, scoring a 2-point layup. After being given the game ball and taking a few pictures, Shives dashed across the court to present the game ball to her grandfather, Bill O’Hara. McKenna wasn’t done, returning to the game and scoring another 6 points in the Lady Cats’ 51-36 victory. At the end of the game, she walked off the court with a career 1,006 points and many games left in the season.
